Custom packaging box design for Battleboards' wargaming terrain, showcasing a sturdy cardboard box with an insert, emphasizing quality and functionality.

What is Battleboards

My name is Richard Hale, and I am the creative director and founder of Battleboards Ltd. Having been a committed wargaming enthusiast since my teenage years, with Games Workshop’s founding and their release of the original Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader game, I founded Battleboards in order to provide the wargaming community with the highest quality of terrain for use in their hobby as was possible; a moniker that I feel is upheld to this day. Battleboards strives constantly to be the absolute highest quality wargaming terrain available today, providing sets of boards that are superbly detailed, as well as being durable, light, and easy to move and store, and each set having the highest degree of interchangeability that can be achieved. In this way, any tabletop gamer using Battleboards can have a different experience with each new game, as they find new configurations for their boards, or introduce new boards to their collection

What I Produced for Battleboards

Battleboards required a custom made box to house its 2ft x 2ft terrain boards ready for shipping. The box needed to allow for bubble wrap, protruding parts, heavy weight, full protection on each side, and an insert to stop it moving about.

Using my skills and experience in box design and cad i was able to start mapping out the net of the insert tray, using specialist folding and cutting techniques i was able to start to design how i wanted this tray to function and construct. the tray included cut out holes to easily place and remove the product with ease. it also created good protection for the base and edge of the product allowing 50mm clearance all around for extra bubble wrap or protruding part.

With the insert tray finished i was able to use its dimensions to design the outer box, This was going to be quite large and needed a top and a bottom to allow easy accessibility and extra protection down the sides to ensure noting can penetrate the box leading to damage of the product. Finally being finished off with a branded wrap and branded circular stickers dots to seal the box.
